The benefits of Junior Achievement

So, it comes to that time of year again. School’s back in session and everyone’s probably feeling miserable, what with having to wake up several hours earlier than during the summer. And for those few strange kids that are actually excited, I’m sure it’s because you are happy to see all your friends. Anyway, there’s a fantastic opportunity for those of you in Grades 9-12 to partake in a program that will definitely make the school year that much more fun. It’s called Junior Achievement, or JA for short.

Essentially, Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta allows students to attempt to create, design, develop and run a business-type company throughout the school year. There are numerous benefits that come with participating in the company program including: acquiring and developing entrepreneurial skills required for the business world, working within a team environment as well as a business atmosphere, and best of all, all of the profits your individual company makes… you get to keep.

There’s so many other components to Junior Achievement, including trips to Washington and the Calgary Business Hall of Fame, but I don’t want to make this post too long winded; so! If any of you are interested in applying to participate in the company program, or are simply want to learn more about what the program details, then follow the link http://southern-alberta.jacan.org/. On the site, you’ll find what the program is about and even electronic applications for company program.

The first company program meeting is sometime in early October so make sure you sign up soon! And remember, don’t forget to add in the additional comments for your applications that Nico M. referred you on YouthAreAwesome.com!
