My name's Carrie and I like turtles. But don't worry; I'm not a zombie kid! I'm a huge fan of video games and supporting independent developers. I love experiencing new things: music, concerts, events, food, and so forth! You can follow me at @missCarrieMah on Twitter, and suggest new things for me to try!

Alberta Elections 2012: A brief overview

After taking an introduction course in Political Science, I realize (even more) how democracy is failing in Western society. I can go on and on about what we could do and what we should be doing, but instead I will just encourage you guys to get involved in any way you can. If you’re in…

21 Jump Street For the Win!

Lately, I feel like there hasn’t been really good witty or humorous entertainment flying around. Sure, Community started up again and Sherlock’s a great time killer; but I feel like there hasn’t been anything up to par with Hot Fuzz, Shawn of the Dead or Date Night (all excellent movies which I highly recommend). So…

Is Netflix REALLY worth it?

For all you Netflix lovers out there, I have it as well. So I’m not some uninformed basher about this streaming service! For $8 per month, Netflix allows you to stream movies and TV shows ranging from romantic comedies to independent movies to anime! And if you’re one of those people who like to try…

A Day in Review: Prom dress galore!

Last month I wrote a post advertising a great event at the Village Square Library: the Prom Dress Extravaganza, where girls had the opportunity to find a special dress and take it home for free! I was able to go to the event last Saturday and I met some great librarians! I was fortunate enough…

Game of the Day: Lightbot

What do you do if you’re bored, feel like being challenged and/or hope to be (or are) a programmer? You play Lightbot! A game designed by Coolio_Niato, this game is about a robot who is trying to light up tiles. You can walk, rotate (which is mind-boggling!), jump, light up a tile and call functions.…

FREE Prom dresses at the library!

Personally, I found Graduation to be a little expensive (which is why my friends and I had a delicious dinner at Bolero instead of a $70 banquet), especially for girls. I know dressing up is super important, paying for make-up, the dress and flowers/decorations. So to help you save some money, your local library has…

A Collection of Nyan Cats

Nyan cat, the most annoying meme ever, or an amusing musical piece? Either way, the title has piqued your interest and I’m going to post my favorite videos related to Nyan Cat.  [youtube QH2-TGUlwu4] The original Nyan Cat video…extended.  Bothersome? Perhaps. Strange? Of course. Addicting? Absolutely! [youtube P0bpK7kPRys] Pianos + Nyan Cat = Cooool [youtube…

Annoying things about Valentine’s Day

I don’t want to try to sound like every other cynical person, but for me I find these man-made holidays to be kind of unnecessary. Like most holidays, they start out as humble, well-deserved holidays. But since capitalism has kicked in, corporations have jumped on these holidays like jack rabbits; making up excuses to waste paper, plastic and our money to try to throw to other people. Oh, and creating really lame and clichéd movies that are not worth $10.

The Humble BRONY Bundle?!

Well, since this term [bronies] is pretty common for the average internet user, what better way to add to the Humble Bundle! As one of the top donators for the fourth Humble Bundle, their website describes it as “A way for bronies to come together and create a fund to buy one big copy of the Humble Indie Bundle. By pooling our resources we can support charities, indie gaming, and show how generous bronies are!”

How to find help in university

Dear future university students, I know I’m just a first year student, but I’ve proved all the teachers wrong! They scare us and tell us that our marks will drop significantly lower, but I’ve found I’ve maintained my marks, and even improved them from high school. Maybe it’s because I like university more, but it’s…

Indie games (and deals) galore!

So I’m pretty sure that you all know how much I love buying indie games, especially when they’re on sale. In fact, I think I have a horrible habit of buying PC games on sale and never play them. That’s okay, developers love people like me! Anyway, I have a fantastic deal-breaker for you today.…

A great adventure with Tintin

At the beginning, I honestly felt like Tintin was one of the least perceptive person ever. His dog, who is totally adorable, seems to discover 85% of stuff that moves the story along. Hm. And not only that, but Tintin deals a lot of property damage in the places he’s at. Although he is running from the ‘bad guys’, he still destroys almost half of an entire city.
