Hello World! It is quite difficult to summarize a human's character with only a few words. But here I go; I am a movie buff, a sushi fanatic, Korean, diligent, a student, an animal lover (especially dogs), a Taekwondo athlete, and amiable (within my own head) ...well I guess that was not too exhausting. I enjoy writing about everything. But more recently, I have discovered a passion to report on the best weekly finds in the realm of science. I sincerely hope many of you will stumble upon something to your pleasure, while reading my blogs.
On Sunday morning, I was casually surfing the BBC news app on my phone. I ran into an article titled, “Ticket issued to driver wearing Google Glass.” The article reports on a woman in California by the name of Cecilia Abadie, who got a ticket for wearing her Google Glass. If you are not familiar…
If the answer is yes, science may be bringing you one step closer to realizing your long sought out dream. This past week, the highly anticipated trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released (eek, I am beyond excited). Throughout this whole frantic craze for superheroes, I have continuously wondered how realistic the reality…
I have officially hit that capricious period of sleep that arises with the middle of first semester. The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I am not alone. Sleep is essential to a human’s daily functions. As we all have heard, eight hours is the ideal amount for sleep. However, we…
It was another day in English. The only odd detail was that we had a substitute teacher. He was in the midst of lecturing us on “The Hills like White Elephants,” when the majority of my class was about to drone off. That is when Mr. John Doe stopped the lesson and went on to…
According to The Independent, there could be a plausible cure to the dreaded symptoms of jetlag. The study conducted by Japan’s Kyoto University could even cure the effects of working irrepressible hours into the night. And yes, I am speaking on behalf of all the students out there. We have built-in clocks within our bodies.…
Before this article becomes a heavy dispute over Apple’s thumb print-reading technology, or the ever-co controversial hype between Samsung and Apple, I would firstly like to state that the technology for detecting earthquakes may not just lay within the temperamental screens of iPhones. In a recent study published in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society…
This past Sunday, I was cruising through the glorious National Geographic magazine website. I wanted to just find a cool video online and I stumbled upon this stunning time lapse clip of the night sky that overlooks the Jersey coastline. Due to the unwavering light pollution of the city, it is quite difficult to see…
The premiere of the international trailer of the 1987 remake, Robocop, made its debut this past week. I was more than over the moon to see the trailer on the featured page of YouTube. But then naturally I began to think about the idea of Robocop and its effects on humanity. First of all, I…
No more of those dubious infomercials or any of those tireless workouts on your thigh buster! Can you believe that the most illustrious secret that we have all wanted to know for staying lean may rest in the microbes of our gut? Well it has yet to be tested in humans, however, for mice, it…
The night was calm; however, through the serenity of night, there I lay dreaming an erratic dream. My dream was unintentionally inspired by The Walking Dead and my yearning to see The Shining. I was the heroine of an isolated hotel, rescuing the inhabitants from man-eating zombies. Then suddenly, Superman appeared in his signature ostentatious…
Some of you may have been fortunate enough to enjoy the fabulous array of fireworks Sunday night at the grand finale of GlobalFest 2013. But have you ever stopped and stared at those pretty lights in the sky and wondered how these fireworks actually work? I am not just talking about the meager firecrackers or…
I have lived in Calgary for over 10 years and I have never attended GlobalFest, if you can believe that. But let me tell you, I have really been missing out. This Friday, I was fortunate enough to go to the China exposition of GlobalFest. I was surprised to see the array of cultural hubs that the…
I was out getting groceries with my mother at Co-op the other day; this is where we had a “produce revelation.” For years we have been purchasing this seemingly unknown squash. It is not attractive in nature, with its uneven and cumbersome skin and off-putting forest green color. Let’s just say that we seem to…
One of the most beloved daytime TV hosts of our generation, Ellen Degeneres is set to host the 86th Academy Awards for 2014! This is the second time around for the comedian to host the Oscars. The announcement was made this past Friday by the producers of the program, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Mrs.…
Homosexuality has been an influential aspect of our current society, especially in the pop culture of youth. Many of today’s pop icons have exposed themselves to be gay; be it from Ellen Degeneres to Adam Lambert, they are all figures in the public that effect some part of our society. But there has always been…
