Hi everyone!
So I’ve just came back from my two-week volunteer trip to Tanzania, and I thought that I should share my experiences with you guys.
First of all, I would like to thank the Amazing staff members of Projects Abroad for answering all my naggy questions before the trip, and their wonderful care while I was in Tanzania.
First things first, I traveled in total probably 24 hours, maybe more, to get to Kilimanjaro Airport, where I was picked up. There were around 30-some high school volunteers, 18 of which were the medical volunteers with me, and the rest as care and community volunteers. We all arrived at individual times, some earlier than others, some as late as the next day due to flight problems, but at the end we arrived safely to our home in Arusha, which is about an hour and a half drive away from the airport.
Along the drive to Arusha, and the drive in the city, I was surprised. Africa was not like what I expected at all. I expected a lot worst. There are bicycles, TVs, cellphones, moterbikes, and cars! Also, while I expected to see a whole city of mud houses, the city is crowded with cement houses, even out in the country side, most houses were cement, and a few in mud.
The placed we stayed at was very nice. It was a family hotel. Despite the flushable toilets, 24/7 hot water showers and bunk beds, I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to experience the culture and live without the accessories that we all take for granted, but nonetheless, it was still quite the experience!
The picture I’ve attached was taken while we were out for a walk. A little boy came running across the streets asking us to take a picture for him, and as a response, we said “POSE!” đŸ™‚
