Youth Are Awesome, commonly referred to as YAA, is a blog written by youth for youth. YAA provides the youth of Calgary a place to amplify their voices and perspectives on what is happening around them. Youth Are Awesome is a program of Youth Central.
We acknowledge that we live and work in Mohkínstsis, the ancestral and traditional territories of the Treaty 7 nations – home of the Blackfoot Confederacy including the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
YAA is for youth interested in:
Writing, blogging, vlogging, and photography.
The content on Youth Are Awesome is written by youth for youth. Our Youth Bloggers cover everything from arts & culture to things to do to opinion pieces on social issues that affect them. There is no shortage of reviews, guides, opinions, and creativity. All of our Youth Bloggers are between the ages of 12 – 18 years old and come from every quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We celebrate each of their unique views and accept new Youth Bloggers regularly. Youth Are Awesome is updated daily throughout the school year (September to June).
How YAA works:
The YAA committee is made up of 15+ Youth Bloggers and 5 Jr. Editors. Youth Bloggers attend monthly meetings to brainstorm ideas and receive guidance and mentorship from Jr. Editors. Every month, Youth Bloggers contribute one piece of writing to the blog. YAA accepts new bloggers year-round.
