Now that you’ve learned all about photography from YAA’s Perspective series, why not put your new skills to use in…

…the MEE’s Photo Contest!

But before we get caught up, let’s backtrack for a moment.  What is MEE?

MEE

MEE stands for Mayor’s Environment Expo.  This year, Calgary’s MEE is happening from June 1 to June 3 in the Municipal Building Atrium. This expo is free and is open from 9am to 3pm on all three days.  But what exactly is this expo all about?

The Mayor’s Environment Expo is Calgary’s premier celebration of environmental stewardship and education. Three days, 5,700 participants and 60 exhibits on eco-action in Calgary. –The City of Calgary

Now that we’ve cleared that up, back to the photo contest! This photo contest is open to high school students (unfortunately grades 10-12 only) in Calgary.  Its theme this year is community and the environment with four different categories:

~ Natural Community
~ Green Architecture
~ Community in Action
~ Community Projects

The deadline to submit photos is April 19, 2010 at 4pm.  The photos that win will be published, recognized, as well as displayed.  Not only that, but first and second prize is a digital camera, while third prize is a digital picture frame. And since there are 4 categories, there are eight cameras and four frames to be won!

If this is something right up your alley, be sure to check out the contest rules and submission form for more in-depth information!

(Extra tidbit of info: I believe there is a competition between several schools in Calgary to see who can submit the most pictures into the contest. From what I’ve heard, there seems to be competition between Western Canada, West Island College, Bishop Carroll, Henry Wise Wood, and Sir Winston Churchill (and maybe even more)! Perhaps this is even more incentive to participate? ;))
