Sled Island: Sunshine

Sunshine

I had the pleasure of meeting Vancouver’s Sunshine, a five-person indie, pop and shoegaze band. Their music has hazy guitars, soft and breathy vocals, and overall make you feel happy and uplifted!

Their self-titled LP was a joy to listen to, and despite the rain pouring during Sled Island, their music brought sunshine to my summer days. Sunshine collaborated with Sune Rose Wagner from the Raveonettes, John Collins from The New Pornographers, Woodie Taylor from Morrissey and Hayz Fisher from The New Values’.

Trevor Risk, the lead vocal/guitarist created Sunshine with bassist  Tyler James Quarles, guitarist Ian Urbanski, drummer Sean Tyson (from Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party) and singer/keyboard player Gillian Dambourg.

Unfortunately I was unable to capture a video of the interview (camera problems!) but I was able to get the audio–they are wonderfully fun and exciting people you should try to meet!

Despite the rain (and we made a few puns and jokes about that in the interview), Sunshine’s performance was fortunately not rained out. I was able to go to their second show at Local 510 (moved from Bamboo because of the flood) and it was just magical. You can catch some of their awesome live music in the following videos!

You can check out more pictures of their show at my flickr account. I know you’re reading this @SunshineSucks, so I want to thank you for the awesome experience and I hope to see you guys again in Calgary!

If you’ve got good taste, listen to them on CBC Music and Bandcamp.

Follow them on Facebook and Youtube.

Trevor Risk is also on on Youtube!
