I love Wongfu Productions.
I love all their sketches, shorts, series, every Wongfu Weekend, every music video. Everything. (Okay probably not everything, but close enough). In fact, if the three guys from Wongfu – Wes Chan, Ted Fu and Phil Wang – morphed into one amalgamation of a human being, I would probably marry that person. I’m sure there are many of you guys too who love them just as much as I do (but not more, because that’s simply not possible). I mean, what’s not to love? They’re funny, make awesome shorts with beautiful veiling flares, and totally rep Asian pride!
WongFu got their start back in college, where the three of them met through a school production. The first “unofficial” WongFu video was a lip-sync video done by Phil and some of his roommates to the song “Senorita” by Justin Timberlake.

From their humble beginnings as college kids, back in 2003 before YouTube even existed, they began by making some simple short films and music videos, and even making one feature length film right as they graduated. Soon enough, they took to LA, the City of Angels, to pursue their film-making career. It wasn’t exactly easy they discovered, but they didn’t let that get them down. Eventually they put out what became one of their most famous web series, Just A Nice Guy, and their fanbase skyrocketed. Here’s the re-released version, where they condensed the three-part series into a 23 minute long film:

Now with over 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube, Phil, Wes and Ted have probably come farther than they ever imagined back as college dorm-mates at UC San Diego. They’ve made music videos for fellow web renowned YouTube musician and friend, David Choi, comedy sketches with internet celebrities KevJumba and NigaHiga, and have even collaborated with international superstar Wang Leehom. But they haven’t sold their souls and let the fame get to their heads – they’ve put out some of the best films of their careers in the past three years and still take the time to tour the world and meet their fans. And, speaking of best films, here are some of my favorite ones:
The Places We Should’ve Gone

[youtube ooChw1NLizo]From the outside in, some may think they are just another trio of famous Asian YouTubers, putting out videos longer than most people’s attention spans to maximize advertisement profits. But after one look at the quality of their work, it’s easy to see where their dedication and heart lies; worn visibly upon the sleeves of their videos. They are not just another trio of internet celebrities who have made a fortune off their channel, but three guys who, really, haven’t changed much from the same people they were in college, making videos simply because they love making videos.
Haha Wongfu Productions is pretty amazing! I especially enjoy their HK shorts myself. Thanks for the roundup!
