This is the story of 40 men, playing a 10 and a half hour hockey game to raise money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital. And it’s happening right now at Chestermere Arena. Just kicking off last Sunday, these 40 brave men laced their skates and are giving it their all for a marathon of hockey. Over May 6 to 16, they are aiming the beat the world record, which is currently 243 hours. It will require playing whopping four hour shifts, then switching off for four hour’s rest, then it’s jumping straight into it. Rinse and repeat for the next week, and the world record is theirs. These men have such big hearts, but do big hearts necessarily mean enough power to keep the blood pumping for 240 minute shifts? Definitely. It’s something that comes standard in Canadian anatomy. To play 24/7 hockey for a week and a half, and more importantly to play to raise money for children, is the true image of a Canadian. It is inspiring to see people take such great initiatives, and are willing to make tremendous sacrifices to reach their vision.
