Proving that arts are underappreciated in society

I recently stumbled across an article about how much arts are truly appreciated in society. Though it was published in 2007, I found it extremely reflective on the state of things today. The article talked about a social experiment conducted at a metro station in Washington D.C., where acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell disguised himself as a street musician. In 43 minutes, he was passed by over 1,000 people. He made only $59, and that’s if you include the $20 given to him by one woman. The irony of this situation is that while Joshua Bell’s concerts are almost always sold out, barely anyone paid attention to him in the metro station. So much for true appreciation of the musical arts.
