I was getting quite tired of reading depressing novels so I decided to look for books that are funny or satirical. What I did not expect was a novel that’s so much more than that.
Basically, “Good Omens” is a comedic take on the Christian end times (most vividly described in the book of Revelations) where the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale work together to prevent the apocalypse, but can’t seem to locate the son of Satan due to a mix up at birth.
This novel is filled with humour (as expected). What I did not expect was an intricate plot line, or the deep analysis of politics, psychology, and sociology. I was thoroughly intrigued by the chapters revolving around Adam, where the readers saw the world descend into chaos from the eyes of an innocent child and watched him transform into the antichrist.
Bottom Line: the jokes were funny, the satire was excellent, and the level of deepness and complexity was unexpected and greatly appreciated. I give Good Omens a 10/10.
