Roll up the Rim to Win? The Facts!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been going to Tim Horton’s nearly every day just to get a cup of coffee so I can roll up the rim. Unfortunately, out of the twenty-two cups I have rolled, none of them have won, which makes me believe that there must be something wrong with the statistics of one in six cups win a prize. When I was angrily looking for some answers on the Tim Horton’s site I came across the rules and guidelines for Roll up the Rim.

Apparently, they spread out the prizes evenly across Canada. Meaning that one province cannot win all 40 Toyota Matrix’s. In Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Yukon there are only 5 Matrix’s to be won, whereas in Ontario alone there are 20 Matrix’s that can be won. On the site, they have even written the chances of winning a Matrix as being 1 in 7,148,780.

Another neat fact about the contest is that you don’t even have to buy a cup in order to play. On the rules and regulations it states…

“NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PLAY: In Canada, obtain a FREE Tim Horton’s contest cup and/or a copy of the official rules, by writing to: Tim Horton’s Contest Cup, P.O. Box 9156 Saint John, N.B. E2L 4Y1. In U.S.A., to receive a FREE contest cup and/or a copy of the official rules write to: Tim Horton’s Contest Cup, P.O. Box 1315 Calais, ME 04619-6315.

All requests for a Free Cup must be postmarked by April 29, 2011 and received by May 9, 2011. Limit of one request per envelope with sufficient postage, while supplies last. Not open to residents of Vermont, Hawaii, Florida, Alaska and where prohibited by law. No mechanical reproductions of requests permitted. All requests must include a postage paid, self- addressed envelope.”

Which isn’t troublesome at all… right?

Facts about winning a donut or a coffee:

Something a lot of people already know is that winning a coffee means you can get any size hot beverage with a contest cup. My recommendation is that you get an XL, and not a small because getting a small without a contest cup is quite idiotic considering you have the chance to win another prize with any other size. The neat thing that I found out however, is that winning a donut does not restrict you just to a donut. With a win a donut rim you can choose from a donut, cookie or muffin and some of Tim Horton’s other baked goods.

If you can’t get enough of Roll up the Rim, check out the online Roll up the Rim contest at http://www.rolluptherimtowin.com/. The prizes on the online contest differ slightly as instead of winning donuts and mountain bikes you are able to win Tim Horton Gift Card’s and coffee for a year (which is sadly not even coffee for a year – just a lot of Tim Horton gift cards).

Good luck with the rest of your roll up the rim cups – hopefully you win! If you are ever fortunate enough to win a big prize such as the big screen 3D TV brace yourself and prepare to answer the skill testing question of:

  1. In all the years this contest has been running I have NEVER won any more then a few free cups of coffee. I buy several cops of coffee a day. I live in the Owen Sound/Meaford area. I’m thinking this contest is rigged so the bigger cities get all the prizes.

  2. are the chances of winning a big prize the same if you are
buying a small coffee. Can you still win a car if you only buy a small coffe?
