Joshua Jay doesn’t do magic tricks; he does magic effects. The mystifying magic Joshua Jay does is simplistic, modern and amazing. Right in front of an interactive crowd, Joshua Jay literally has created his own brand of “magic” that transforms spectators to be participants, for it be fun and engaging, and most of all, he is a brilliant and inspirational role model and teacher.

Joshua Jay is quite an accomplished magician, as a “performer, lecturer, author, and photographer of all things mysterious” in his biography by John Armato, and is well-known and well-respected internationally. In 1998, he was crowned champion at the World Magic Seminar and he’s a headliner at the prestigious Magic Castle in Hollywood. He’s also the author of two best selling books, one of them, Magic: The Complete Course, and has been translated in English, French, Italian, Russian, and Mandarin. Pretty impressive.

Admittedly, I’m an eager magic enthusiast, not necessarily an amateur magician, but magic is definitely a pasttime. I love to read up on it and practice. Unsuccessfully perusing and browsing for a particular book that revealed the art of “street” magic, Joshua Jay’s book plus DVD- Magic: The Complete Course found me. Inside was combined expertise, full colour photographs and clear, precise step by step instructions to 100 magic tricks, with 75 of them demonstrated on the DVD by the charismatic Joshua Jay Jay himself. It was exactly the magic “tricks” that would impress friends and family, and the effects were  astronomical after just a couple of hours of practice! They did not include complicated sleights of hands or fancy props, just everyday household items and up close and personal magic that cause tremendous astonishment.

But wait, isn’t this exposing his magic? Couldn’t one just watch his magic lessons on YouTube? NO, to both! Trust me, I have watched all of Joshua Jay’s publicized performances that he has made on live television (Good Morning America, CNN and The Today Show, to name a few) and I’m impressed every time.

Magic is “the only art form that gives people that moment of astonishment”… and I definitely recommend reading up on his book! If you are looking for magic tricks to perform that garners the true amazement (I’ve tested out so many magic tricks on WeiJia, and she only truly finds the ones I learn from Joshua Jay quite brilliant and entertaining!) Plus, check out his unique and highly sophisticated website– which has fantastic performance footage and the complete biography of Joshua Jay’s rise to becoming a world class magician!
