Are you about to go to high school? Nervous? Well, I got you. Here are 5 tips to prepare you for the next three years.
Academics
If you’re looking at universities, your grades matter the most, and prioritizing them should be your main concern. Here are some ways you can get the grades you want!
Figure out a study method that works for you. Everyone is unique, and so are their learning styles and retention ability.
Make time for review every day to make sure you’re not exhausting yourself before the test. Take it Day by Day
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, reach out to your teacher when concepts get hazy, ask your friends, and there are so many public resources for you; all you have to do is take action
University
Start looking at universities early; planning ahead won’t cost you anything
You don’t need to know what exactly you’ll do for the rest of your life. You just need to have a vague idea of the two wide areas you might be interested in! Tailor your subjects and extracurriculars towards those program requirements
Reach out to seniors, alumni and teachers! Everyone is always open to giving advice.
Connections
Try to build connections early on, high school is a place where community is readily available, cherish those moments and talk with as many people as possible.
This is the time for figuring out who you are, being open-minded with people’s experiences and keeping a curious approach to social interactions
Extracurriculars
Don’t know where to start? Well, with your school and community making it easy to reach out to initiatives, you can join school clubs, non-profit organizations such as Youth Central and build on from there.
Instead of trying to search for a starting point, reach out to someone who is in a place that you want to be in the future, ask them how they got started and what you can do!
Enjoy life! This is the time to build your sense of identity beyond consumerism. Research what books you like? What kind of music? What values do you want to represent in the world?
Hope that was helpful. I wish you all the best for your high school journey!
