Old and Alone: A Poem

There is a house, it is considered quite nice

The house is quite huge, causing passersby to contemplate its price

Rows of intricate roses decorate the front lawn

But if one looks through the window, it is empty, all through the night and day to the crack of dawn

In reality, it is not actually vacant

Rather inside, lies an old woman who many might consider ancient

She repeats her life day after to day

From when her hair was pitch black, to when it started to turn light grey

She lives by herself

Talking with and providing basic necessities to oneself

But as time passes by

She developed feelings of loneliness which makes her want to cry

Her children and grandchildren live far far away

They are very happy, going about their everyday lives each and every day

The old woman meets with them once in a while

Drawing on her face not just a little grin, but a great wide smile

She is an old woman though and she feels as if she causes trouble to the family

She has specific needs in which they all make sure to satisfy rapidly

The family loves her with their whole heart

But the old woman feels as if she is using them as a crutch

So she goes back to her home although she was never shunned

Where she lives with the happiness of not being a burden to her loved ones

With rows of intricate roses, that decorate the front lawn

But with loneliness which encapsulates her all through the night and day to the crack of dawn
