How to Kill Time This Spring Break

Spring break is starting soon, and for some, it’s already begun. While spring break gives us a well deserved break,  for many of us, boredom arrives as an unwanted gest.  I wanted to share some ways you can kill time during the break while still being productive.

Read, read, read!

People always say you should read when you are bored instead of using your electronic devices for hours on end but finding books that spark interest can be challenging at times. When you run into this problem, try getting book recommendations from your bookworm friends. After all, you ARE friends with them so your interests could potentially be found in a book they like. If this isn’t the  best option for you, try looking online to find popular books whether it be over social media or just google (me mindful that you don’t begin to mindlessly scroll though). Trust me, when you find a good book, you won’t want to put it down for even a second. The best part is that reading will increase your vocabulary and provide you with vital reading comprehension skills (this great when reading comprehension tests roll around). Happy reading!

Learn a language

There are several free apps that can be used for learning a new language. I highly recommend that you utilize these resources during the spring break to feel productive but also stay entertained. Right now, I’m learning Spanish using a popular app called Duolingo and I love it! Even if you don’t feel like learning a whole new language on your own, using language learning apps is an effective way to gain a better understanding of a language you are learning in school! Exercise

Although when you exercise, a minute can feel like an hour, it is still a great way to kill time. Whether it’s going out for a walk or doing an intense HIIT workout, any type of exercise is good for you and after you’re done, you’ll feel more positive and productive. Now, when I say exercise, I’m not only talking about your physical body. You can also exercise your mind by doing meditation, reading, or basically any work that requires you to think hard. I know it may feel boring or uncomfortable while you are exercising, whether it be physically or mentally, but you will thank yourself afterwards because even a small feeling of accomplishment can go a long way.

Watch TV

This may seem contradictory to what I have said so far in this post but watching TV can be a great way to kill time while still being productive. You can watch documentaries! I know this sounds boring but, if you find one that connects with one of your interests, documentaries can become something that you look forward to watching. A few documentaries recently watched on Netflix were: RBG; Operation Varsity Blues, The College Admissions Scandal; and The Social Dilemma. If you feel like lounging on your couch watching Netflix but also want to learn something new, documentaries are for you!

I hope I was able to give you a few ideas on how to kill time without being a complete couch potato this spring break! Have a great one and stay safe!
